Amori Divini

The Amori Divini project exhibits in the spaces of the MANN (National Archaeological Museum of Naples) about 80 works of Greco-Roman classicism and their modern reinterpretations, depicting the myths of transformation of Ovid’s Metamorphoses.

The exhibition is inspired by the narrative structure of the text, where each myth is introduced by the previous myth, sometimes by analogy of content, others by identity of form, still others by transforming the narrated subject into a narrator. This sequence of the story, a “box within a box”, is translated into a spatial metaphor where the exhibition envelope is contained by the architectural envelope of the museum rooms: when the exhibition support is engraved, cut out or folded, the architecture that contains it is revealed. The walls, with cuts and curves, indicate by shape the direction of the visit path, hinting a vault door, which is contained by the large ribbed vaults of the museum space. The vertical claddings are engraved to accommodate the artifacts in the window, cut out and folded to accommodate large-format paintings.
