The museum is housed within the spaces of the Bourbon Royal Palace of Quisisana and tells the story of the ancient Roman city of Stabiae, whose study and excavations were undertaken in the 1950s by the archaeologist Libero D’Orsi.
The museum’s exhibition route unfolds through 15 galleries, displaying artifacts that narrate the history of the territory through 11 thematic sections: The Bourbon Excavations and the Excavations of Libero D’Orsi; From the Archaic Age to the Hellenistic Period; Villa San Marco; Villa San Marco / Villa del Pastore; The Second Complex; Villa Arianna; Villa del Petraro; Food and Diet; Villa di Carmiano – The Triclinium; Chariot from Villa Arianna; Productive Activities.
The collection is further enriched by works originating from the villas of the Stabian territory. A total of 507 artifacts are currently on display, including wall paintings, marble furnishings, and ceramic and bronze household objects.
The exhibition path is integrated with educational multimedia technologies and installations, enhancing both the physical and cultural accessibility of the artworks and their contents.
