The permanent exhibition is housed in the second-floor galleries of the National Archaeological Museum of Naples.
Through bronzes, marbles, terracottas, and frescoes from various Vesuvian domus, visitors are guided along an itinerary that reveals not only the refinement of the furnishings and the artistic value of the artefacts, but also the intimate, everyday atmosphere of domestic spaces. The homes of the ancient Pompeians thus come alive, capable of narrating identities, aspirations, and lifestyles.
Around two hundred and fifty artefacts, largely drawn from the Museum’s storerooms, offer a fresh perspective on the domus. Each element invites visitors to explore the functions of domestic life: through furniture (chairs, stools, benches, tables, monopodia), the sophistication of household utensils (braziers, lamps, food warmers, candelabra, cups), and the vibrancy of the decorative scheme (sculptures, fountain ornaments, oscilla, frescoes). Technique, craftsmanship, and art come together in a dynamic dialogue that deeply influenced European taste in the 18th and 19th centuries, leaving visible traces even in modern design.
Petrucci Srl created all the display supports and sheet metal showcases, finished with epoxy coating or clad in marble. The company also produced the partition walls that house the frescoes and upgraded the lighting system.
