Egypt Pompeii

Egypt Pompeii

Egypt Pompeii is a spectacular setting which involves the construction of a self-supporting pavilion in the north arm of the Palestra Grande. A linear space of about 80 meters was completely closed, leaving the columns of the ancient building visible on the outside. The metal structure includes a new walking surface (a metal walkway covered with linoleum) to which the two side walls are linked, closed at the top by a plasterboard false ceiling. The complex metal frame with uprights is covered with counterwalls, plasterboard structures and gypsum plates.

Light, darkness and colors are the dominant elements of an installation, characterized by the presence of many multicolored wooden poles and asymmetrical, almost tribal spacers: everything is a metaphor and a reference to the Egyptian world, not least the edges, angles and construction features of the display elements.

The exhibition houses the lion-headed statues of the goddess Sekhmet and the seated statue of Pharaoh Tutmose II, borrowed from the Egyptian Museum of Turin, in combination with the connections with the Egyptian world in Campania and specifically in Pompeii and the Vesuvian area. The almost labyrinthine space finds its conclusion in the video installation by Studio Azzurro.
